Ford fosters friendships in Geelong

08 December 2008

BacLinks recently facilitated a unique opportunity for Ford employee volunteers to spend a day out with residents of Cottisfield Supported Residential Facility, Unfortunately poor weather conditions prohibited the planned day within the beautiful surroundings of Eastern Beach and the Geelong Botanical Gardens, however, the social event still eventuated inside the Cottisfield facility with Cottisfield providing a BBQ lunch for both the residents and the Ford employees.

This provided an important social opportunity for Ford employees to interact and engage with a group of significantly isolated and disadvantaged members of our community who otherwise have little opportunity to socialise with community life outside of their residence.

Ford has had a strong commitment to improve the quality of life in the communities that it operates in. This project is just one of a number of projects Ford has been involved in that offer social support and practical assistance to members of the local community.

"Ford and BacLinks have partnered to provide employees with two very different volunteering opportunities in 2008 with each project tailored to support both Ford and community needs", says Cheryl McKenzie, Ford Community Affairs Coordinator.

"This project provided employees from our Broadmeadows plant with an opportunity to spend the day interacting with Cottisfield residents who may not always have the means to meet other people."
