Survey reveals respite need is growing

More than 80 Karingal participants and carers took part in a state-wide survey, which revealed a greater need for respite services. This survey was developed by National Disability Services Victoria and the Department of Human Services as part of a respite use and demand project. Konnections makeover almost complete

Progress to give a ‘face lift’ to buildings at Konnections continues to move ahead in leaps and bounds. • The administration and day service building in Rosebud has received a fresh coat of paint. • The kitchen at Rosebud has been fully upgraded to include disability access, new benches and additional storage and servery. • The Konnections horticulture section has new insulation and a new heating and cooling system.

MatchWorks does well in ratings again

MatchWorks has performed well once again as part of the Federal Government’s star ratings program. Colac job seekers Dream, Believe and Achieve

Around 20 unemployed women aged 16 - 19 from Warrnambool and Colac were treated to a make-over and motivational day in March to assist in building their self-esteem and improve their chances of gaining employment. Nina leads the way at Training

Karingal Training has enlisted the expertise of Nina Novak to assist with Disability Awareness Training. Karingal Training Business Development Officer and Trainer Jules Dymke said Nina, who is also a Karingal participant, had made a great contribution to the communication section of the program. “To date Nina has completed one gig but we are booking her in for more- including our accredited training,” she said.

The All Abilites netball 2011 season is now underway with places still available for the 2011 season. The competition, for netball players with disabilities, started in 2005. More teams are now coming on board offering a great opportunity for people who have been thinking about trying netball to get involved.

Karingal Training is offering specialised training for people who are experiencing significant life issues through its modified Certificate I in Work Education. Brian gets stuck into new role

WorkLinks participant Brian Finlay has always wanted to work in a panel beating shop, and he has truly embraced his chance. WorkLinks staff assisted Brian by introducing him to The Geelong Collision Centre General Manager Frank D’Andrea. Brian began a work trial last year, with the assistance of Karingal’s Disability Employment Services provider, MatchWorks.

KarnivART prize announced

KarnivART 2011 was another great success this year with artist Lola Camm taking out the top prize for her piece Lola and her Dog. The winner was not able to be there on the night, but pictured is KarnivART judge Jamie Daddo and Niall Hensey, Haven Chief Operations Officer and the major sponsor for the event, with the winning work.
