MEDIA STATEMENT

Karingal Inc, with its long history of community caring and as an approved and registered aged care provider, is delighted to take ownership of Kardinia Centre.

Karingal CEO Daryl Starkey said: “Over the past few years Karingal has explored issues of ageing populations with a range of groups and we have taken this step to purchase Kardinia Centre as it compliments our core values and mission. Quite simply, the Karingal mission is to provide quality services that improve the lives of individuals, with aged care being a natural extension of what we do.”

Kardinia Centre was purchased from Retirement Care Australia (RCA) following their comprehensive review of all their aged care facilities. A key RCA decision for some facilities, such as Kardinia Centre, was that some would be best managed by registered aged care providers with closer connections in the community.

“For over 50 years, Karingal has played an important role in the Geelong community. With a strong history of development, growth and initiative, Karingal has continued to provide opportunities and access for people with a disability or disadvantage to live as independent and equal members of the community,” said Daryl Starkey.

“Karingal operates under a community board and was set up by the Geelong community to assist Geelong people. The Karingal family prides itself on this strong local focus.

“As new owners of Kardinia Centre we make our commitment to continue to provide a high level of professional aged care service and to abide by existing Residents’ Agreements and Core Principles.”

“As part of the sale Karingal will also offer Kardinia Centre staff the same position they hold today, with the same terms and conditions as their current employment. We will also recognise previous periods of employment where relevant,” said Daryl Starkey.

Mr Starkey said that once all arrangements have been finalised Karingal will ensure that any changeovers will occur with minimal disruption to the smooth running of the Centre and for all residents.

“We will be keeping everyone fully involved and informed on plans and decisions at the Centre,” said Mr Starkey.
