March brings Karnivale and ART to life
16 February 2010
Karingal is calling on artists with disabilities and mental illness to enter their work into this year’s KarnivART event.
The art show, now in its second year, offers the opportunity for artists with disabilities to showcase their work in a public forum and, potentially, win a $1000 prize consisting of $500 to pay for the acquisition of the art work by Karingal and $500 to further develop the winner’s artistic endeavours.
The winner will be announced by KarnivART judge, artist Jamie Daddo, at an official cocktail evening on March 26.
The identical twin of television personality Andrew Daddo, Jamie is an artist with an acquired brain injury resulting from an accident more than 20 years-ago.
The exhibition is open to artists over the age of 18 who live in the Geelong-South/West region and identify as having a disability.
KarnivART ’10 will be open to the general public between 11am and 4pm on Sunday March 28.
The exhibition is a key highlight of Karnivale, a community carnival at the stately grounds of historic Kardinia House in Riverview Terrace, Belmont on March 28.
As well at the KarnivART exhibition, it will also feature music, food, clowns, rides, a circus school, face painting and a market where fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers will be sold.
Designed to bring people with disabilities and the general community together for a day of fun, food and festivities, the Karingal Karnivale will be a fully-inclusive family fair.
Artists who would like to enter their work into KarnivART ’10 can get an information pack and entry form by contacting Justine Bily on 5249 8981 or email karnivart@karingal.org.au
