Colac job seekers Dream, Believe and Achieve

14 April 2011

Around 20 unemployed women aged 16 - 19 from Warrnambool and Colac were treated to a make-over and motivational day in March to assist in building their self-esteem and improve their chances of gaining employment.

The day, titled the ‘Dream, Believe and Achieve’ was organised by MatchWorks, in partnership with BacLinks.

The participants were treated to hair and makeup guidance fromSouth West TAFE, and participated in a lesson on enhanced confidence through beauty, fashion, career and life skills by expert Tina Nikolovski from Radiance Consulting. They also received mentoring from MatchWorks staff.

The girls were also fitted out in clothes that would help them make a good first impression at job interviews.

MatchWorks General Manager Michael Wasley said the program had made a real difference to confidence levels of the young women.

“At MatchWorks we assist many people who are experiencing significant challenges in their lives, and sometimes it’s not as simple as whether they have a job or not,” Mr Wasley said.

“Many of these women come from quite challenging backgrounds. We hope that this day has given them a confidence boost and will assist them in gaining sustainable, long-term employment and make a difference in their lives.

“Employment and the satisfaction of receiving income in return for a hard day’s work, is an important component of social inclusion and feeling part of the local community.”

Several other local businesses provided services and products, including Target, Price Attack, Direct Chemist, Artz and Kay Chemist, Healthwise Pharmacies and Priceline Pharmacy.
